Main Tournament Core Principles
1) Where possible rounds should have a set start time so that players do not have to wait around for matches.
2) Players will not be eliminated from the Main tournament until they have played at least 3 matches, but should continue to play the remainder of their Swiss matches unless otherwise released by the Tournament Director. Any player who fails to complete the matches required of them will be barred from further participation in the tournament.
3) Players who have won four or five matches in the Swiss will progress to the Last 16. Players on 3 wins still have a chance of progressing to the later stages of the competition and will be entered into a play off or a random draw.
4) The format is identical in the Masters and the Intermediates, except that there are 72 places in the Masters and 56 in the Intermediates.
Saturday: Swiss
The Saturday Swiss is effectively a qualifier to determine who plays in the Last 16 knockout on the Sunday. All players play 5 7-point matches. All players on 5 and 4 wins will qualify. Players on 3 wins will take part in a further play-off for the remaining places in the Last 16, or a random draw if places are very limited. Players on 2, 1, or 0 wins will not qualify, but will be free to take part in side events for the rest of Saturday and will be entered into the Consolation on Sunday morning.
Sunday: Last 16
The last 16 play in a straight knock out, 11 point matches, to determine the London Open Champion. Once players are knocked out of the Main, they can sign up for the Last Chance Tournament, which starts at 1pm. The Consolation is not progressive.
Consolation
The Consolation is for players who have not qualified for the Last 16. It is a straight knock out, 7 point matches.
Last Chance
The Last Chance is for players knocked out of the Main and Consolation Tournaments by 1245. It is a straight knock out, 5 point matches.
